Geographic information systems: the promise is back.

First Mr Dangermond writes a pseudo-proposal to the new government. It will, no doubt, save America´s economy. Apparently, all it takes is to create a National GIS! (and ESRI technologies are just ready to deploy, at Mr. President´s nod). ArcGIS Server will serve, at some licensing fee.

Now ESRI Press strikes again: “ESRI Press Book Shows Why Government Sees GIS As A Great Investment”.

I am now editing this old post rather than a new one. Why? Read on. Another ship is sailing the seas of opportunity, this time several Captains and old friends: Oracle, Autodesk, Microsoft, throw a not-that-new idea, this time to contribute saving the economy of the USA. You guessed well: a National SPatial DAta Infrastructure. Ummm. These guys can see so well into the future, that they almost saw it 30 years later. Okay, that´s progress.
